Don't want to talk about great things I have done in life: Ravichandran Ashwin

Star Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, has recently been the talk of the town, thanks to his remarkable achievement of 500 wickets in Test cricket and his abrupt departure from the third Test of the ongoing England series due to a sudden emergency back home. Additionally, the veteran is also set to feature in his 100th Test appearance with the Dharamsala encounter.

Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to their social media account and posted a picture of Ashwin, offering a sneak peek of the upcoming interview with the cricketer.

“There is one thing that I don't want to do in my life. Just sit there and talk about the great things I have done in my life. For me, the beauty about life is, you get learnings all the time and you could just be someone who just walks past your life for five minutes but they could give so much to learn”, Ashwin said in an interview to BCCI.

In a surprising turn of events during the Rajkot Test, the offie had to abruptly leave the match after achieving a significant milestone – his 500th wicket. Addressing the press post the day's play, Ashwin, who reached the milestone, left the venue due to what the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) referred to as a 'family emergency.'

Later, it was revealed that the emergency was related to Ashwin's mother's health. Despite Ashwin keeping mum on the matter, his wife Prithi shed light on the situation in a column for The Indian Express, explaining that Ashwin's mother had suddenly collapsed, necessitating a swift trip to the hospital.

“During Rajkot, the kids had just got back from school when five minutes later, he got to 500. And soon, all of us were on the phone answering all the congratulatory messages,” Prithi wrote in her column.

She further revealed that, instead of contacting Ashwin directly, she called Cheteshwar Pujara to arrange the return route for the spinner, as they had initially decided not to inform him due to the lack of convenient flight options between Chennai and Rajkot.

“So I dialled Cheteshwar Pujara and his family were of great help. And once we found a way out, I called up Ashwin because after the scans, the doctor suggested it was better to have her son around. Over the phone, he sounded so broken and hung up. It took another 20-25 minutes to process what I told him and for him to call back. And thanks to Rohit (Sharma), Rahul bhai (Dravid) and the others in the team and the BCCI - who followed up all the way till he reached here - he got here late at night,” she further added.

Upon reaching home, Ashwin witnessed his mother in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Fortunately, her condition stabilized, prompting Ashwin to take a return flight to Rajkot and rejoin the team on day four of the Test, displaying his commitment to the game even amidst personal challenges.
