‘DRS, yeh thoda jyada nahi ho gaya?’ – Mohammad Kaif raises question over Rohit Sharma’s dismissal during RCB clash

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif was left baffled with the DRS call following the dismissal of Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma during the clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Notably, the five-time winners brushed aside Faf du Plessis’ RCB by six wickets and 21 balls remaining at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the 54th game of the IPL 2023.

During the midst of the competitive chase, the opening duo of Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma needed to create a solid foundation to build upon. The explosive southpaw quickly got into the groove and hit the ground running as he got four sixes and as many boundaries to score a quickfire 21-ball 42, before getting dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga.  

Rohit, on the other hand, failed to contribute much and was sent packing in the same over by the RCB spinner. However, it was the manner by which he was dismissed that garnered attention from former cricketer Kaif.

Notably, the spinner made a big appeal after trapping Rohit while the latter tried to swat towards the leg side. However, the umpire called not-out upon which RCB challenged the decision and the Ultra Edge confirmed no bat involved. Rohit headed back to the pavilion after the ball tracking confirmed three reds thereby handing Hasaranga his second scalp of the over.

Suryakumar Yadav’s blitzkrieg secures two points for MI

Following Rohit’s dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav breathed fire as he hammered runs all over the park and notched up a 35-ball 83 which included seven fours and six maximums at a stunning strike rate of 237.14. In addition to this, he combined with Nehal Wadhera as the pair raised 140 runs for the third wicket to remain steady in the chase. 

Wadhera remained unbeaten as he registered 52 off 34 balls featuring three sixes and four boundaries. Moreover, it was the 22-year-old, who cracked one over the cover boundary for a maximum to win the game for MI. In doing so, the five-time winners climbed to the third place with 12 points off 11 outings.
