The match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium was another nail-biting affair in the ongoing IPL 2023 as the home team eventually won the game by seven runs.
Batting first, the Krunal Pandya-led side started really slow but courtesy of Marcus Stoinis’ stellar innings of 89* runs off 47 deliveries, LSG posted 177 runs on board, which looked to be a fighting total after the end of the first innings.
When it came to the chase, Mumbai openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave the five-time champions a perfect start as the southpaw went on to smash 59 runs off 39 deliveries while the skipper hit 37 runs off 25 deliveries.
However, after they both walked back to the pavilion, things got a bit complicated in the middle. Tim David played a ruthless innings of 32* runs off 19 deliveries but it was too little too late in the end as Mumbai suffered their sixth defeat in the tournament.
Meanwhile, after their incredible victory, Lucknow Super Giants took a dig at the visiting team by using their team song. This is not the first time Lucknow have taken a dig at their opponents as a similar incident happened against Royal Challengers Bangalore as well.
“Duniya hila di yeh match ne, ngl,” LSG tweeted.
Gautam Gambhir lauds the architects of LSG's victory
After the completion of the match, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir lauded Marcus Stoinis and Mohsin Khan for their brilliant performances in the match. Stoinis did all he could with the bat while the Indian pacer bowled a brilliant last over, conceding only four runs to help Lucknow pull off a heist. Taking to Twitter, the two-time IPL-winning skipper appreciated them for their breathtaking performances.
“The two Ms - Marcus and Mohsin! Breathtaking performance,” Gambhir wrote.
Meanwhile, following their incredible win, Lucknow have moved to number three in the IPL points table while Mumbai have slipped to fourth.
