In a decisive game for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women in the Women's Premier League (WPL 2024), the spotlight was on the contest against the reigning titleholders, Mumbai Indians Women.
Placed third in the league standings with three wins and four defeats, RCB needs a win to go up the table.
Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry produced a historic performance, becoming the first player in the Women's Premier League history to take a six-wicket haul. Perry's sensational figures of 6/15 in 4 overs, which included a mind-boggling 18 dot balls, derailed the defending champions, Mumbai Indians.
The 32-year-old Perry led RCB-W's charge with the new ball, dismissing the dangerous Nat Sciver-Brunt cheaply. She even dismissed the other opener, Sajeevan Sajana, for her knock of 30 off 21, who was looking threatening during her stay in the middle for MI-W.

Ellyse Perry becomes the first woman to take a six-wicket haul in WPL history
After dismissing Sajana, on the very next delivery she knocked the timber of the Mumbai Indians' captain Harmanpreet Kaur for her to depart for a golden duck turning the ongoing WPL 2024 match towards RCB-W. The Australian pacer later dismissed Amelia Kerr by trapping her in front. Amanjot Kaur became Perry's fifth victim, departing for just 4 runs. Opting to field first after winning the toss, RCB-W's decision seemed correct for their bowlers, as they ran through the batting lineup of MI-W.

Suddenly, Mumbai was reeling at 73/5 after 11 overs. Perry was not done yet though. She came back to castle Pooja Vastrakar in the 13th over before having Humaira Kazi caught at mid-off an over later to complete her six-wicket haul.
Asha Sobhana, Sophie Devine, and Shreyanka Patil were good support for the 33-year-old cricketer. Mumbai was bundled out for 113 runs after 19 overs. The Smriti Mandhana-led side need to chase down this target as soon as possible to better their Net Run Rate. Mumbai Indians Women and Delhi Capitals Women have already qualified for the next round of the WPL 2024. The red-and-gold brigade require 114 runs to defeat the Mumbai-based franchise.
