England's standby, Harry Brook, continued his merry ways with the bat as his exuberant form with the bat trickled into the fifth ODI against Australia in Bristol.

Brook came into bat with England's score at a score of 70, replacing the departing Will Jacks, who copped a four-ball duck. Phil Salt was the first batter to head to the hut, but not before smashing 45 out of England's total of 58 at that moment.

Brook started off on a positive note, much like how he had in the series so far. Batting on 21 off 24 deliveries, he hammered a drag-down by Adam Zampa, who was into his second over, deep into the stands towards the deep midwicket region. The third delivery of the over was unusually loose by Zampa, and the Englishman did the honours as he slog-swept the delivery deep into the parking lot where one of the stewards had to retrieve the ball from. Another maximum ensued on the fifth delivery, as Brook deposited a full delivery from Zampa over long-on with nonchalant poise.

Brook takes two more bites into Zampa, but spinner has last laugh

The aggressive batter wasn't done as he continued his belligerent nick with the bat as he smacked a couple of sixes further down Zampa's spell, one of which were deposited into the flats. However, it was Zampa who finally had the last laugh, but not after being inflicted to some serious carnage, as Brook miscued his shot to long-off where Glenn Maxwell gobbled the ball comfortably.

At the time of writing, England were 229 in the 32nd over, with Ben Duckett bringing up his second ODI hundred off 86 deliveries. With 18 overs to go, it will have to be seen how the hosts finish off their innings and the target they set Australia, considering they have lost half their side already.
