India keeper-batter Sanju Samson smashed a cracking 40-ball century in the third and final T20I against Bangladesh, in Hyderabad. He wreaked havoc with the bat and along with captain Suryakumar Yadav, they stitched a partnership of 173 runs - which is the second-highest second-wicket partnership for India.

He was under pressure ahead of the game as the 29-year-old failed to impress in the last two T20Is. The Kerala-born cricketer was at risk of losing his place in the playing XI in the future, given that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are waiting in the wings but with the century, he can push for a place in the future as well.

After the game, Samson stated that he was very emotional and the celebration that followed after the century was a perfect example of it. He addressed that it took him some time to find his feet in international cricket but was happy to have finally delivered for the national team. The cricketer also added that he was happy to have Suryakumar at the other end during the century knock.

“Basically, very happy, out of words, very emotional, very grateful to God that it has happened. Everyone has his own time. I just kept on doing my work, kept on believing in myself, and happy that you (Suryakumar) were there with me to celebrate that hundred,” Samson said in a video shared by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).

One of the best hundreds I have ever seen: Suryakumar

Captain Suryakumar was highly impressed with Samson’s century in the third T20I. The Mumbai-born cricketer also enquired about his mindset behind completing the century with a lofted shot, that went for a boundary. Samson credited the dressing room environment for the same and added that the message was to be aggressive and humble.

“I enjoyed it from the other end. One of the best hundreds I have ever seen. You were on 96 or 97 and going down the straight, over the top, taking that risk - what was running in your mind?” Suryakumar asked.

“The team atmosphere and the environment which we have created in these many weeks... The message is, go be aggressive and humble. These are the two words that our captain and coach keep reminding us. So, I think that suits my nature, my character, so I just kept on going for it,” Samson explained.
