The five-time winners of the prominent Indian Premier League recently made a surprising announcement in which they communicated about MS Dhoni passing the captaincy baton to youngster, Ruturaj Gaikwad. The fresh development has taken the cricketing world by storm, stirring widespread discussions amongst the fraternity.

Notably, the new skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, started off his IPL career in 2020 in the Chennai-based franchise and has represented them in 52 games so far, having won the Orange Cap in just his second edition, amassing 635 runs in 16 innings in that particular season.

In the same vein, Chennai Super Kings posted a video on their 'X' handle, where Ruturaj Gaikwad can be seen making his way towards the central part of the ground and interacting with an official of CSK. He admitted that he felt extremely privileged and the fact that it was a huge responsibility. However, due to the rich tapestry of experience present within the group, he felt quite relaxed as he believed that most things are quite sorted ahead of the IPL 2024 opener. Besides, Gaikwad also iterated that legendary senior players like MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ajinkya Rahane, all of whom have captaincy experience coupled with expansive cricketing knowledge, will only aid him in conducting his job with ease while leading the side on the field.

“I have Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) in the team, Jaddu bhai (Ravindra Jadeja), and Ajju bhai (Ajinkya Rahane) as well, to guide me. Nothing to worry, just looking forward to enjoy,“ Ruturaj said.
