Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe in their second encounter of the T20 World Cup 2022 played at the Perth Stadium on October 27 (Thursday). With this loss, the chances of Pakistan qualifying for the next stage are looking very bleak.

Speaking about the game, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to have a bat first in Perth. Zimbabwe openers gave a decent start to their team as they managed to score 42 runs in 4.6 overs before the team lost their first wicket.

Pakistan bowlers then took control of the game and took wickets at regular intervals. Senior batter Sean Williams top-scored for his team scoring 31 runs. Some decent batting from Brad Evans (19 runs off 15 balls) meant that Zimbabwe reached 130 runs in their allotted 20 overs but lost eight wickets in the process.

Sikandar Raza dents Pakistan's batting line-up

Chasing a small total of 130 runs, Pakistan got off to a poor start as they lost two crucial wickets within the powerplay overs. After bagging a golden duck against India in the previous match, skipper Babar Azam took nine balls to score his four runs before being sent back to the pavilion.

Mohammad Rizwan was also cleaned up by pacer Blessing Muzarabani as the Men in Green found themselves in huge trouble. However, the innings was stabilized by Shan Masood and Shadab Khan as they stitched a vital fifty-plus partnership.

At one stage, Pakistan were cruising, but off-spinner Sikandar Raza had some other plans as he first removed Shadab followed by the wicket of Haider Ali on the next ball. Raza did not stop after taking two wickets as he came back for another over and removed the well-set batter, Masood.

It all came down to Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim to help their side to victory. It all came down to three off three with Nawaz at the crease. Brad Evans, who was bowling the last over bowled a precious dot delivery followed by the wicket of Nawaz. With three required off the last delivery, Shaheen Afridi could only manage a single before getting run out and Zimbabwe bagged a historic victory.
