Former Pakistan fast bowler set to make OTT debut
47-year-old Shoaib Akhtar has signed a deal with Pakistan's first OTT platform Urduflix.
Widely renowned as the The Rawalpindi Express, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar is all set to make his Over The Top platform debut with Urduflix and his show will start from February 17 onwards. The former pacer took to Twitter to inform about the same to his fans around the world.
Akhtar had earlier taken to Instagram to share the news about his OTT debut with his fans. He signed a deal with Pakistan’s first OTT platform, Urduflix, and many were delighted after hearing the news and claimed that they couldn't wait to see the 47-year-old in action whenever he makes his debut on screen.
Akhtar posted a picture on his Instagram account as he announced the news of his deal with Urduflix. He captioned the picture, "I am ready for my OTT debut. Are you??"
Akhtar is not the first cricketer to sign a deal with Urduflix
Previously, former skipper Shoaib Malik also signed a deal with Urduflix, where he hosts a show with his wife, Sania Mirza. ‘The Mirza Malik Show’ is well received by fans, and now Shoaib Akhtar will be joining in the mix as well; however, it is not clear what plans the 47-year-old has following his deal with the OTT platform.
The news of Akhtar’s deal comes a few weeks after he informed his fans about the failure of his dream project, ‘Rawalpindi Express’ which was a biopic being made on his life. The production of the film was cut short after some disagreements that Akhtar had with the film crew.
Taking to Twitter, he stated that he could also take the legal route if the film continued production and used his name or his life events in any way. The failure to resolve disagreements and constant contractual violations were the reasons why he cut ties with the production team of his biopic.
Nicknamed as the ‘Rawalpindi Express’ by fans all across the globe, the retired pacer still holds the record of the fastest ball ever bowled in an international match. He bowled a 161.3 Kmph (100.2 miles per hour) delivery to England opener Nick Knight when Pakistan faced them at the 2003 ODI World Cup.
