This is back to where it all started: Gautam Gambhir
The Delhi batter was bought by KKR in the 2011 IPL player auction for $2.4 million (11.04 crore). He led the team from the Eastern part of India to the title in 2012 and 2014. After spearheading the team for seven seasons, Gambhir went to Delhi Capitals from where he announced his retirement.
Earlier this year, multiple reports suggested that the southpaw was set for a move to his former IPL side. Fans started speculating that a historic homecoming was around the corner when Gambhir visited KKR's co-owner Shah Rukh Khan's home in Mumbai in September.
KKR shared Gambhir's statement after the move. The 42-year-old mentioned that he is emotionally charged after being given the opportunity to wear the purple and gold jersey once again.
"I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat, and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR," Gambhir noted.
