Grace Scrivens' hilarious glove antics costs Sunrisers five penalty runs during Charlotte Edwards Cup game

Grace Scrivens' gaffe cost Sunrisers five penalty runs during Charlotte Edwards Cup game against Northern Diamonds on Sunday, May 28, in Leeds. The incident took place during the first innings of the match after Diamonds’ captain, Hollie Armitage, won the toss and elected to bat first.
During the eighth over of the innings bowled by Abtaha Maqsood, Sterre Kalis’ pad brushed the fourth delivery going down the leg side and the batters started running with the ball going towards fine leg. Wicketkeeper Amara Carr began chasing the ball after dropping one glove alongside the stumps to allow her to throw the ball with full force.
Grace Scrivens came in from the point region to collect the throw, however, she ended up picking the dropped glove to collect the ball in ‘wicketkeeper style’ while the batters had completed two runs. However, Scrivens’ fun antics cost her side five penalty runs as the umpires, Phil Mustard and Simon Widdup, awarded five runs to the Diamonds as per Law 28.2.3.
Scrivens violated two provisions of the cricket laws during her antics on the field. As per the guidelines, the fielder cannot use other external equipment such as keeping gloves while fielding. Moreover, in case the gloves are donned by a non-wicketkeeper, then the fielding side will be penalised for the same.
"No fielder other than the wicket-keeper shall be permitted to wear gloves or external leg guards," states Law 28.1.
“He/she will be deemed to have fielded the ball illegally if, while the ball is in play he/she wilfully uses anything other than part of his/her person to field the ball,” as mentioned in law 28.2.1.

7Sunrisers lost the match by 35 runs
Coming back to the match, the Diamonds posted a massive score of 172/7 in their allotted 20 overs in the first innings, riding on Leah Dobson’s knock of 47 (40). Sterre Kalis (29 off 28) and Bess Heath (31 off 14) also made valuable contributions.
Grace Scrivens picked up 2/24 in her four-over spell, while Kelly Castle picked up 2/37 in four overs. In the second innings, Sunrisers were bundled out for 137 in 18.4 overs. Scrivens was the lone warrior for her side as she scored 50 off 35 balls while only one other batter crossed the 20-run mark. Katie Levick was the pick of the bowlers with her spell of 5/19 in four overs while Chloe Tryon (2/22) and Grace Hall (2/27) picked up two wickets each.
