Chennai Super Kings asserted their dominance with the ball in the second innings of their clash against Gujarat Titans. While the home side were in total control of the contest, CSK skipper MS Dhoni was engaged in a lengthy chat with the on-field umpires ahead of the 15th over of the second innings.

Apparently, the former Indian skipper wanted Matheesha Pathirana to bowl the 15th over of the second innings, only for the umpires to intervene. Pathriana, who was off the field before that over, was not eligible to bowl as he had not completed the stipulated time on the pitch after his break.

CSK skipper did get his way though as their discussion meant that the young Sri Lankan pacer had spent enough time back on the field to be eligible to bowl again in the match. In the meantime, the visitors were not able to cope with Dhoni's tactics in the field. While Pathriana was quite erratic for the hosts, dishing out frequent loose deliveries, the other bowlers did more than enough to see off the threat from the defending champions.

Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for the five-time champions as he delivered the killer blows by dismissing both the GT openers, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill in his four-over spell. Tushar Deshpande also held his nerve in the latter stages, dismissing the dangerous Rashid Khan to pretty much seal the victory for the home side. Maheesh Theekshana, unlike his young compatriot, was bang on the money from the get-go, getting rid of Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia in his brilliant bowling spell.
