The only Test between India and England women kicked off in a brilliant fashion for the hosts. Both sides took centre stage at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, December 14. Coming in to bat first, India put in a brilliant showing.

After the early dismissals of the openers, Jemimah Rodrigues, Satheesh Shubha, Yastika Bhatia, and Deepti Sharma looked to be in excellent form as they helped the side post a huge total on the board.

However, one of the most bizarre moments on day 1 of the sole Test was when skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed from a runout. Having scored 49 runs in 81 deliveries, Kaur looked to be edging towards a win. However, as she was running back into the crease, her bat got stuck, and a throw by Danni Wyatt ended her brilliant innings.

It is worth noting that the skipper was dismissed in almost identical fashion during the semi-final clash against Australia women in the T20 World Cup. The clip of her runout has been going viral all over social media.

India Women aim to maintain dominance against England Women on Day 2

Batting first, Team India fully dominated England women on Day 1 of the only Test. Jemimah Rodrigues scored 68 runs in 99 deliveries, and Satheesh Shubha scored 69 runs in 76 balls. Furthermore, Yastika Bhatia and Deepti Sharma added 66 and 60* runs on the board, respectively.

By the end of Day 1, India women posted a mammoth total of 410 runs on the board with the loss of seven wickets. As for England women, Lauren Bell ended the day being the highest wicket-taker with two wickets to her name. Furthermore, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Kate Cross, Charlie Dean, and Sophie Ecclestone took one wicket each as well. As Day 2 of the clash approaches, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will look to maintain their dominance and post an ever larger total on the board in the first innings.
