MS Dhoni has been India’s best captain so far, leading India to victory in T20 World Cup 2007, World Cup 2011, and Champions Trophy 2013 in six years after holding captaincy reigns. His prowess was evident in IPL as well, as he won five titles for the Chennai Super Kings. Another cricketer who came close to his captaincy in terms of title was Rohit Sharma, winning five titles for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
The India captain added another feather to his cap by clinching the T20 World Cup 2024 title and becoming only third captain after Kapil Dev and Dhoni to win a World Cup trophy for India. Another Mumbai lad, Shardul Thakur who has played ample cricket under Dhoni and Rohit was asked to pick between two captains and the former chose the 43 -year-old while pre-empting Rohit’s cheeky remark.

“Rohit is my friend first, so I would say MSD. He (Rohit) will understand even if he feels angry, I would go and butter him and say, Rohit, no problem! When this video goes to him, he will be like typical Rohit Sharma with me on the phone,” said Shardul during an event at IISM.

Better a time to say goodbye to this format: Rohit
Both Dhoni and Rohit do not hold captaincy positions for their respective teams in the IPL. Moreover, after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit announced his retirement from the T20Is and will continue to lead India in Tests and ODIs. Along with him, stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also retired from T20Is which led to Suryakumar Yadav becoming India’s new captain in T20Is.
"This was my last game as well. I've enjoyed since the time I started playing this format. Better a time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. This is what I wanted - I wanted to win the cup," said Rohit after T20 WC 2024 triumph.
