India wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson has been going through a tough phase in his career as he once again failed to find a spot in the Indian team for the home ODI series vs Australia. The 28-year-old travelled with the Asia Cup squad as a reserve but didn’t get a chance with KL Rahul recovering from injury.

After once again failing to find a spot in the Indian team, Samson has expressed his disappointment on social media. The Trivandrum-born cricketer first posted a smiley emoji on his Facebook account and few hours later posted another photo of him playing for India with the song ‘Way down we go’. He captioned the photo, ‘It is what it is! I choose to keep moving forward.’

Samson last played for India during the second T20I vs Ireland on August 20, 2023. Following that, he was included in the Asia Cup squad as a reserve for KL Rahul but was released after the latter recovered from his injury. Since then, the 28-year-old also wasn’t picked for the Asian Games 2023 and now also missed out from the squad for the ODI series vs Australia.

Samson has good numbers to make a strong case for his selection in the team in his short ODI career as he has 390 runs to his name from 12 innings at an average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104. He has done most of the opportunities he’s got but still has been overlooked by selectors time and again.

Suryakumar Yadav pipped Sanju Samson in World Cup squad

In his place, Suryakumar Yadav has been given the nod to be in the World Cup squad. The right-handed batter doesn’t have good ODI numbers to show with 537 runs to his name from 25 innings at an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 99.81 with two fifties. The 33-year-old has been picked due to his flamboyance and is expected to replicate his T20I magic in the ODI World Cup.
