Former Indian batter and Chepauk Super Gillies head coach, Hemang Badani has recently shared a statement on social media over the rumours around his application for BCCIs selection panel. Chetan Sharma and the group of selection committee were sacked after India’s exit in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 and BCCI has invited new applicants for the post.

Among the notable names that have applied for the post are Maninder Singh, Nayan Mongia, Shiv Sundar Das, Rajesh Chauhan, Sameer Dighe, Atul Wassan, Ajay Ratra, Nikhil Chopra, Gyanendra Pandey, Pravanjan Mullick, Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Sanjay Raul, Saradindu Mukherjee, Subhomoy Das, D Vasu and Gursharan Singh.

Badani played four Tests and 40 One Day internationals from the period of 2000 to 2004 and his elegant stroke play is always remembered among the fans. Certain sources had also revealed Badani has been in the race for the selector post and the left-hand-batter has now cleared the air around the rumours in a statement on social media.

Here's Hemang Badani's post on Twitter

“To all my lovely fans, well-wishers and friends..Just putting this out here to offer some clarity. As much as I deem it a privilege and honour to be a part of the BCCI selection panel, I have not applied for the post as the rounds across media have been doing. Wishing all the applicants the best,” Badani’s statement read on Twitter.

Meanwhile, according to the BCCI constitution, the senior player with most Test caps would automatically assume the role of the chief selector in the committee, which will be picked after a series of interviews. Also, five posts in the selection committee are vacant while the BCCI has set an age cap of 60 for the role and it will be interesting to see who gets the nod for the position.
