'I wish ki tu mere saamne hota' - Wasim Akram lashes out at fan over distasteful comment on Shaheen Afridi
"You don’t know how to behave with the young and elders. You are being rude to your own player? No shame, no remorse," said Akram.
Pakistani fast bowling legend Wasim Akram slammed a cricket fan for his distasteful comment on pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi. Notably, Afridi had to leave the field against England after injuring his knee in the T20 World Cup 2022 final at the MCG last weekend.
Akram did not shy away from expressing his emotions on live television as he not only warned the fan to behave himself but also told the person to never have such questions in mind as the players give their everything while representing the country.
You are being rude to your own player?: Wasim Akram
A fan had posted a distasteful tweet for Shaheen in Urdu which read, "Coward Shaheen Afridi... you should have bowled 5 deliveries but like a coward you ran away from the ground."
This did not go down well with Wasim Akram and he gave a befitting reply to the social media critic.
“This guy. This question of yours. You are being rude. You don’t know how to behave with the young and elders. You are being rude to your own player? No shame, no remorse," said Akram while speaking on a cricket show ‘The Pavilion’ on A-Sports.
“Just have a look at what he has said about Shaheen Afridi. I am fuming. I wish ki tu mere saamne hota," an angry Wasim said on air.
Defending a modest total of 137 in the final, Shaheen Afridi picked up the key wicket of Alex Hales when he clean bowled him off an unplayable delivery. When middle-order batter Harry Brook was caught courtesy of a difficult catch from Shaheen, the match was still hanging in the balance. However, the speedster ended up doing some serious damage to his knee after successfully taking that catch.
The tall pacer did get the ball in hand in the 16th over and even though he bowled a widish yorker on the very first delivery, he seemed to be in some kind of discomfort and could no longer bowl. He walked off the field for further treatment.
Shaheen could not complete his remaining quota of overs as the Pakistani bowlers struggled to keep the English batters at bay. In the end, Ben Stokes finished things off in style in the penultimate over, remaining unbeaten on 52 runs off 49 deliveries as England were crowned the new world champions of the shortest format.
