With KL Rahul being ruled out of the IPL 2023 and also from the final of the World Test Championship, the BCCI recently named Ishan Kishan as his replacement. However, former England captain Michael Vaughan, who has been pretty much vocal on the social media, presented his views and opined that Yashasvi Jaiswal could have been an interesting replacement for the injured Rahul.
Rahul sustained an injury to his right upper thigh while he was fielding in a game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Post his injuries there were speculations that the wicketkeeper-batter would miss the finals of the World Test Championship which was later confirmed by Rahul himself as he cleared the air that he will not be able to play in the marquee event.
As per a statement released by BCCI, they revealed “After consultations with specialists, it has been decided that Rahul will undergo surgery at the earliest followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy for the same. He is ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia."
Regardless of the fact that Kishan has started to pick up some form lately, the former England cricketer opined that he would have picked Yashasvi Jaiswal in India's WTC squad as the southpaw is having a dream run in the IPL 2023 so far.
Vaughan took to Twitter and wrote, “I would have selected @ybj_19 as KL Rahul’s replacement for the World Test championship final … He is that good .. he is going to be a superstar .. #India.”
The UP-born batter has been in red-hot form throughout IPL 2023. He is currently second in the list of top run-getter in this year’s edition of the IPL, scoring 575 runs at an impressive average of 52.27 and a strike rate of 167.15.
In Rajasthan Royals’ last game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Jaiswal was a major contributor towards RR's victory with a breathtaking knock of 98 runs off just 47 deliveries, thereby ending RR’s poor form and reviving their chances for a place in playoffs.
