'I wouldn't necessarily say I'm like an older brother or anything' - MS Dhoni opens up on relationship with Virat Kohli

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are two of the most revered cricketers across the globe. They have been remarkable ambassadors of the beautiful game and brought several laurels to India in unison. Fans have also showered immense love on the duo as the two legendary players backed each other at all times, both on and off the field.

Kohli made his international debut in 2008 under Dhoni's captaincy. Later, in 2014, the Delhi batter took up Test captaincy after Dhoni retired from the format. A couple of years later in 2016, the wicketkeeper-batter stepped down as India's skipper in white-ball cricket and Kohli took charge.

Kohli didn't hesitate in seeking Dhoni's help for the DRS calls and the latter was correct on most occasions. They were also involved in several match-winning partnerships for the Men in Blue and shared great camaraderie off the field as well. Dhoni recently spoke about his relationship with Kohli and called him one of the best batters in the sport.

"We have been playing together since 2008/09, and while there's an age gap, I wouldn't necessarily say I'm like an older brother or anything; we've just been colleagues who have played for India for a long time. He has been among the best in world cricket," Dhoni said at an event.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli has often credited MS Dhoni for backing him during his initial days with the Indian cricket team. In a previous interview, the iconic batter said that Dhoni was the only person who contacted him after he announced his decision to relinquish Test captaincy.

Fans wait eagerly for the Indian Premier League (IPL) to see the two players taking the field together. Dhoni and Kohli have become synonymous with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, respectively, for their fantastic contributions to the franchises. Dhoni is known for his calm and composed demeanour, while Kohli is the epitome of flamboyance. However, the opposites have attracted to create a bond that warms the hearts of cricket aficionados.
