The fortunes of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have remained unchanged since the inaugural season played in 2008. Despite the franchise consistently fielding a strong team over the years, they have been unable to clinch a single title in the last 15 years in the top-tier league.
South Africa legend and former player of RCB, AB de Villiers believes that the franchise is not far away from bagging their maiden IPL title and once they win one they might end up bagging consecutive titles on the trot.
It is no secret who @ABdeVilliers17 will be cheering for this year!#RCB fans, are you ready to chant Ee Sala Cup Namde with him?🤩 pic.twitter.com/sf5fCYJmju

"It's been how many seasons now? Quite a few, 14 or 15 or whatever. So, they would love to break the shackles. I think if RCB wins this one then, they'll probably win two, three, four quickly but let's wait and see what happens, T20 cricket is a bit of a gamble sometimes, anything can happen. Especially knockout games, but hopefully RCB's turn is around the corner,” said de Villiers in a video posted by Star Sports.
de Villiers represented the side for 11 seasons since his debut for RCB on April 9, 2011, against Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
AB de Villiers to return to RCB next season
Former South Africa batting megastar is all set to embark on a new journey with the franchise as he is slated to take a different role within the set-up. de Villiers recently visited Bengaluru to discuss his new role with the side and confirmed that he will be present at the venue alongside former RCB teammate and explosive Caribbean batter Chris Gayle for the first home game of the forthcoming season.
As per reports, de Villiers might mentor the Faf du Plessis-led side ahead of the IPL 2023 and play a vital role in the planning and ideating for the mini-auction in December.
