Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will be led by Hardik Pandya in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In his debut as MI skipper, Hardik had a disastrous start as the team finished last on the IPL 2024 Points Table, winning just four games out of 14 that season. There were also speculations of a cold war-like situation between Rohit Sharma and Hardik over leadership transfer ahead of the 2024 edition.
However, the new season is starting afresh for the franchise, and Pandya believes that it is an extremely fortunate atmosphere for him to have names like Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav (India's T20I skipper) and Jasprit Bumrah (India ODI and Test vice-captain) in the side. He also believes that the leadership core within the MI set-up will always be available for him whenever any sort of help is needed, and Pandya feels blessed for the same.
“I’m lucky that I have three captains who are playing with me. So, it adds more and more experience for me. If I require help, I know that there are three different minds who have led India in different formats. With so many years of experience, they can put the arm around my shoulder and always be there for help. So I look at it that way,” Hardik said at the pre-season press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Suryakumar to captain MI against CSK
It is noteworthy to mention that the Choryasi-born will not be able to part in their opening game against Chennai Super Kings on March 23. As a matter of fact, Pandya has been penalized with one-match suspension due to slow over-rate during the 2024 edition, following which, he is banned from participating in the upcoming clash. In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav will be seen captaining the side, before handing over the duties back to the mainstay skipper.

Their second game of the season will be against Gujarat Titans, which will be held on March 29 at the gigantic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and Hardik will be hoping to put up a strong show against his former team.
