India are all set to take on Australia in the second ODI against Australia on September 24, Sunday at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. After winning the first ODI by five wickets, the Men in Blue already have a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.

In a most recent update, the Board of Control for India (BCCI) has confirmed that ace India speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been given a short break as he will not travel to Indore with the squad. The apex body further confirmed that the 29-year-old will play in the third and final ODI on September 27 in Rajkot.

Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been called up to replace Bumrah in the second ODI.  The 29-year-old, who made his ODI debut in an away series against the West Indies in July 2023, has four wickets in three games.

Speaking of the first ODI in Mohali, India decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Courtesy of Mohammed Shami's fifer, India bundled out Australia for 276 in 50 overs. David Warner top-scored for the tourists, scoring 52 off 53 deliveries while Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja grabbed one wicket each for India.

India got off to an explosive start, with openers Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad managing to put up a partnership of more than 100 runs for the first wicket. Gill scored 74 off 63 deliveries while the latter hit a 77-ball 71. Later Suryakumar Yadav (50) and stand-in skipper KL Rahul (58*) scored respective half-centuries as the hosts managed to chase down the target in 48.4 overs.

A win in Indore for team India will allow them to seal the series, firming their dominance in the format. In addition, the match will also be the last prospect for players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav to make a strong case for themselves ahead of the World Cup. The ongoing series is India and Australia's last assignment ahead of the eagerly anticipated Cricket World Cup commencing on October 5.
