India batter Shubman Gill smashed his second ton in Test cricket in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit Sharma-led team India and Australia have locked horns in the fourth and final red-ball clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In the midst of the Indian batting innings (first), opener Shubman Gill carved out a scintillating century against the tourists in the contest. Gill got to his ton in 194 balls which included 10 boundaries and one maximum to his name.
In addition to this, the flamboyant opener also attained an impressive milestone across all three formats of the sport. He became the fourth Indian to register a century across the three formats in a year and became the tenth player overall in international cricket to have etched his name in the record books.
Team India aim to minimise deficit against Australia in fourth Test
The Aussies posted a massive total in their first innings thanks to an outstanding batting performance by Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green. The opener carved out a delicate knock of 180 runs in 422 balls.
Down the middle-order came Green, who took the onus of further helping his side extend the dominance in the contest. Khawaja’s 180-run knock coupled with Green’s 114 off 170 balls steered the side to score a colossal 480 runs in the contest.
Team India kickstarted their batting innings with a decent partnership raised between skipper Rohit Sharma and Gill. The two batters got 74 runs between them before Rohit departed for 35 runs.
Gill continued to play his fine knock and registered his century despite the side losing the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara just prior to tea. With Gill and Virat Kohli on the crease, the duo will look to stitch a vital partnership and draw closer to the Australia’s first innings total. Notably, the home side will look to obtain a result in their favour considering that the WTC final is at stake.
