The second Test at Green Park, Kanpur has been marred with rain so far. After only 35 overs of play was possible on Day 1, the start of play on Day 2 has been delayed due to rain. India are leading the two-match series 1-0 and would want to register a win in the second Test to consolidate their position at the pole position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
On Saturday, September 28, the two teams came to the ground for the resumption of the Test but they were greeted by rain as the covers were enveloping the entire ground. The broadcasters went onto reveal that the entire first session was washed out. After waiting for a while, they decided to board their respective team buses and make their way back to the hotel. With the weather forecast not being too positive for the rest of the day, chances of play resuming look very bleak.

A look at what transpired on Day 1
If no play is possible on Day 2, the chances of this encounter heading towards a draw rises substantially. Bangladesh put on a spirited batting effort on Day 1 as they reached a score of 107/3. This was a much-improved batting performance from the visitors after they were abysmal in the first Test in Chennai.
The Bangladeshi openers survived testing new-ball spells from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj but Akash Deep got the better of them after coming in as the second change bowler. At 29/2, it seemed that the ghosts of the first Test were coming back to haunt the Tigers. However, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque retaliated and stitched a 51-run partnership off 101 balls.

Ravichandran Ashwin accounted for the wicket of Shanto for a 57-ball 31 before Mominul and Mushfiqur Rahim joined forces. The two experienced cricketers will look to bat long and get their team to a position of strength once the action resumes.
