India (IND) and England (ENG) crossed swords in the summit clash of the T20I series at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, February 02.
The game was all about Abhishek Sharma's thunderous century to put India in the driver's seat after England's decision to bowl first after winning the toss backfired heavily. Sharma, who reached the three-figure landmark in 37 balls, also became the second-fastest centurion for India in the shortest format of the game, following Rohit Sharma, who made his in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Apart from Abhishek's 135 from 54 balls, handy contributions by Shivam Dube (30 off 13), Tilak Varma (24 off 15), and Sanju Samson (16 off 7), powered the Suryakumar Yadav-led side to a daunting total of 247/9 in their set quota of 20 overs. England knew they had to start firing from ball one to reach the humongous total set by the Men in Blue.

In the very first over, Mohammed Shami, playing his comeback series, was taken to the cleaners for 17 runs by Phil Salt. However, the pacer struck on the very first ball of his second over, sending back Salt's partner Ben Duckett for a golden duck. Thereon, wickets started to come at regular intervals for India, as Jos Buttler (7 off 7), Harry Brook (2 off 4), and Liam Livingstone (9 off 5), departed without any significant contributions.
Although Salt continued his assault in the middle, he too departed after a slower wide delivery by Shivam Dube. Salt's 55 off 23 did only little good to England's chase, however, lack of support from the other end turned the tide in India's favour, if it wasn't already after the first innings. The visiting side lost their eighth wicket having put only 90 runs on the board, which was a clear sign that win was just a formality for the Indian team.
For India, the bowlers did an excellent job to stem the flow of runs and also take regular breakthroughs. Shami was the pick of the bowlers for India with three wickets under his belt. Furthermore, Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy, and Dube got a couple of wickets each, while Ravi Bishnoi got a solitary wicket. As a result of the all-round performance, India won the game by a massive 150 runs, their second biggest in terms of runs.
Throughout the match, the social media fraternity was abuzz with their hilarious takes on the match, and posted a flurry of rib-tickling memes and videos on 'X' (formerly known as Twitter) to show the funny side of the thrilling encounter between India and England, which the former won rather convincingly, where Abhishek was undoubtedly was awarded the Player of the Match for his thunderuous display.

Only Indian who would be upset seeing England not batting entire 20 overs and going back home early is Narayana Murthy.
