IND vs ENG: Jonny Bairstow fields on his knees in Rajkot, picture goes viral
Bairstow's interesting approach was employed to counter low bounce on the pitch.
England cricketer Jonny Bairstow was spotted kneeling while fielding in the third Test against India in Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. The ball was keeping low and to counter that, the England international was on his knees in order to pick up a low catch if there was an edge. He tried that move when Kuldeep Yadav was batting in the middle against Joe Root.
However, veteran pacer James Anderson got the job done as he picked up the wicket of Kuldeep. The southpaw tried to flick it but failed to time it as it went straight to wicket-keeper Ben Foakes. Soon after that, Ravindra Jadeja, who was looking brilliant with the bat, got out to Root after scoring 112 runs. In the absence of many key players, Jadeja was promoted up in the order and he did justice to the faith shown by the team management.
India were reduced to 33/3 on the morning of Day 1 but Jadeja built a crucial 204-run partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma to bail the hosts out of a difficult situation. After Rohit got out for 131 runs, debutant Sarfaraz Khan took the matter into his own hands and played an aggressive brand of cricket. He made 62 runs before getting run out following a miscommunication with Jadeja.
When it comes to England, Mark Wood has been the star with the ball so far. He picked up three wickets but hasn’t proved to be effective on Day 2. None of the England bowlers have looked threatening and that’s a concern. The spin duo of Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley picked up only one wicket so far as Ravichandran Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel looked comfortable in the middle.
India would be eyeing to post 500 runs on the board as England batters will enjoy the surface in Rajkot. They will look forward to playing aggressively and a good competition is expected between English batters and Indian bowlers.
