India batter Sarfaraz Khan’s debut innings in Test cricket ended in a rather unfortunate manner as he got run out due to a miscommunication with Ravindra Jadeja on Day 1 of the third India vs England Test in Rajkot. Notably, Jadeja who was batting on 99, called the debutant for a quick single to complete his fourth Test hundred in the 82nd over of the day.

However, seeing Mark Wood collect the ball at short mid-on, Jadeja immediately sent Sarfaraz back. By the time Jadeja had refused the run, it was too late for the 26-year-old as a direct-hit from Wood at the non-striker’s end brought curtains on his dream debut. The dismissal left everyone at the stadium stunned as captain Rohit Sharma was even seen furiously throwing his cap in the dressing room.

However, after the end of the day’s play Jadeja issued an apology to Sarfaraz through Instagram and accepted his mistake. “Feeling bad for Sarfaraz Khan, it was my wrong call. Well Played,” wrote Jadeja on his Instagram story.

Notably, Sarfaraz looked at ease during his time at the crease as he effortlessly took on the spinners. The Mumbai batter played a brilliant knock of 62 (66) with the help of nine fours and a six in his innings. He also got involved in a 77-run stand with Jadeja for the fifth wicket helping India go past 300 on Day 1.

Jadeja had a subdued celebration upon completing his century

Meanwhile, following Sarfaraz’s dismissal, Jadeja completed his century on the very next ball as he guided the ball towards deep backward square leg for a single. However, the disappointment of getting Sarfaraz run out was evident on Jadeja’s face as he had a rather subdued celebration after reaching the landmark.
