Rohit Sharma to captain India in T20 World Cup 2024, confirms Jay Shah
Rohit is set to captain India in the upcoming 2024 men's T20 World Cup, as announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah during a media briefing in Rajkot. This will mark the 36-year-old's second stint as the leader of India's T20 World Cup campaign, having previously captained the side in 2022, where India bowed out in the semi-finals against eventual champions England. Shah also confirmed that Rahul Dravid will continue as the head coach of the team leading up to the global tournament.
Following the T20 World Cup 2022, the India opener was absent from T20I action throughout 2023. However, his return to lead the team against Afghanistan in January 2024 indicated a clear path towards captaining India in the upcoming World Cup, scheduled to take place in the USA and West Indies in June. Shah's affirmation solidified Rohit's role as the skipper, and could act as instilling confidence in the team's preparation and aspirations for the prestigious tournament.
