New Zealand has created history and has done the unthinkable by whitewashing a Test series in India after 24 years. The visitors were coming into this game after already clinching the series with wins in the previous two Tests in Bengaluru and Pune, respectively. Interstingly, Kiwis became the third team to reach this feat of clean sweeping the Men in Blue in their backyard, with the earlier two being England in 1980 and South Africa in 2000.

On Day 3 of the Mumbai Test, India managed to bowl out the visitors for 174 runs as the tourists posted a target of 146 runs. 

The India openers yet again failed to give a solid start. Skipper Rohit Sharma (11) fell while pulling a Matt Henry delivery. Yashasvi Jaiswal (5), Shubman Gill (1), and Virat Kohli (1) once again walked back cheaply, resulting in a batting collapse. Though wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant provided the late resilience with his sublime 64, but walked back after a controversial caught-behind decision and fumed back with disappointment. 

Being India's last hope, India was on the brink of a historic defeat but the fans and experts, alike were praying for the lower order to get the side over the line.

New Zealand spinners including Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips thirst looked unquenchable, as they came out to clean up Washington Sundar (12), Ravindra Jadeja (6), and Ravichandran Ashwin (8). Patel hammered the final nail in the coffin by dismissing Sundar while he aimed for a big shot. 

With this defeat, India not only suffered a disappointing series loss but has also slipped one position down in the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table with 98 points and a PCT of 58.33.
