IND vs SA: Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul punish South African bowlers as India post mammoth 237
Each of the Indian top-four batters was among the runs in the carnage of the first innings.
India squared off against South Africa in the second T20I in Guwahati with hopes of sealing another series victory. The Indian innings got off to a dream start as Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul registered yet another half-century stand, their 13th in T20Is, marmalizing the South African bowlers in the powerplay. The sensational opening pair added 96 runs in just under ten overs to push the visitors on the back foot.
Kl Rahul who produced a sluggish half-century by his usual high standards in the first T20I, silenced the critics with an explosive innings. Rahul registered the fastest T20I half-century by an Indian against South Africa, a record that lasted barely half an hour as the incoming Suryakumar Yadav was at his glorious best after those two quick dismissals.
The swashbuckling middle-order batter continued the demolition job for India, registering the joint-second fastest T20I half century for the hosts, coming in just 18 deliveries. He played some mesmerizing shots during his stay at the crease along with the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who was holding his own in the explosive partnership. The former dished out a heartwarming hug to Kohli after the batting ace replicated one of Suryakumar's trademark shots.
South African bowlers breathe a sigh of relief after Suryakumar was sold down the river by his senior partner, cutting short his belligerence on 61 runs, coming off just 22 deliveries. The 102 runs stand between the eye-catching duo was the fastest 100-run stand for India in T20Is. Kohli, who played second fiddle in the partnership, was left stranded on 49 runs after the 'finisher' Dinesh Karthik played a quickfire cameo of 17 from just seven deliveries.
A surreal batting display saw the hosts post a humongous total of 237 in their 20 overs. The Indian batters were helped by some ordinary bowling by the Proteans, who dished out some juicy full tosses for the Indians to capitalize. South African batters will have to bat oot of their skins to chase down the daunting total to keep themselves alive in the series.
