The T20I series opener between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede turned out to be a rollercoaster affair for the fans as the Asian Giants engaged in a thrilling encounter. Emotions got the better of India's star all-rounder Deepak Hooda, who hurled abuse towards the on-field umpire during a decisive partnership with fellow all-rounder Axar Patel.
The hosts were in a precarious position after losing their influential skipper Hardik Pandya in the 15th over of the match, with the scoreboard reading 94/5. That is when the pair of Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel took the game to the Sri Lankan bowlers. Their power-hitting abilities came to the fore in a trailblazing stand for the sixth wicket that propelled India to a competitive score.
However, Hooda was left frustrated on the fifth delivery of the 18th over when he left Kasun Rajitha's delivery in hopes of getting a wide. But the on-field umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan did not call it a wide as the batter had moved across his stumps. Hooda was seething by this decision and hurled “behen ke l***”, towards the umpire. He even engaged in an argument with the umpire after nicking a single of the very next delivery.

The 27-year-old went on to compile a blistering assault, amassing 41 runs in 23 deliveries, while his partner in crime Axar Patel remained unbeaten on 31 of 20 deliveries, dragging the hosts to 162/5 in their 20 overs. Their 68-run stand for the sixth wicket proved to be the turning point in the match as India went on to win the game by two runs in a nail-biting contest in front of a sold-out crowd at the Wankhede.
