IND vs SL: Jeffrey Vandersay and Ashen Bandara collide while fielding the ball, taken off the field
The incident happened in the 43rd over of the innings.
Team India has dominated the third ODI against Sri Lanka with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli smashing centuries. Amidst the run-fest, an unfortunate incident happened in the field with two Sri Lanka players colliding while fielding the ball. The two players in question were Ashen Bandara and Jeffrey Vandersay who eventually had to be taken off tie field.
The incident took place in the 43rd over of the innings when Virat Kohli pulled one into the deep off Chamika Karunaratne while at the crease on 95. Vandersay and Bandara both went for the ball that was running towards the boundary.
As it turned out, Bandara, who slided to stop the ball, ended up smashing his leg into Vandersay's stomach as both the fielders immediately fell down in pain. Soon there were concerned faces in both India and Sri Lanka's camps, as the physios from both teams ran into the ground.
Even the umpires were looking concerned watching it unfold from close proximity. Eventually, Bandara was stretchered off while Vandersay, who was writhing in pain, was taken off the field. With concussion protocols coming into play, Sri Lanka were allowed two of them even as Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage came out as substitute fielders for the rest of the innings.
