Left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar has been exceptional in the ongoing Indian Premier League. In Punjab Kings’ opening match against Delhi Capitals, the Meerut-born cricketer gave away just 14 runs in three overs and picked up one wicket, while in the second match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the 28-year-old conceded 13 runs in four overs and picked up two crucial wickets of Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell.

At one point when RCB were the favourites to get the job done, he single-handedly pulled PBKS back into the contest, which impressed former cricketer Kevin Pietersen. He lauded the IPL for giving opportunities to domestic players and added that the Indian selectors should keep an eye on Brar for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin on June 1. Eventually, he also congratulated Virat Kohli, who once again registered yet another half-century in the IPL.

“Goodness me, doesn’t the IPL just serve up so much sporting joy? How good was Harpreet Brah last night? Indian selectors MUST keep a close eye on him for the WC! And, my boy VK, you buddy, are more than joy,” Pietersen tweeted.

I was trying to bowl as many dot balls as possible: Brar

After the game, Brar revealed his game plan as he stated that the goal was to bowl as many dot deliveries as possible. Courtesy of his economic spell, Punjab clawed back into the contest and were the favourites to win the game in the last two overs. However, Dinesh Karthik stood tall and got the job done for the hosts, as PBKS suffered their first defeat of the season.

Meanwhile, the spinner added that he was aiming to bowl a little far from the batter’s hitting arc and found success in doing so.

“I tried to dry up the runs as much as possible and I picked up two wickets in the process as well. I was trying to bowl as many dot balls as possible to create pressure on the batters. The dot balls give you wickets in the end. It's all about bowling on the right lengths in T20 cricket. I look to bowl a little far away from the batters' hitting arc. We got a bit of help from the wicket in Bengaluru and it was not easy to strike the ball," Brar said.
