Umesh Yadav could be key for India in Ahmedabad Test and beyond

After team India dominated the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Aussies made quite the comeback in the third Test in Indore. Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon’s performance propelled the visitors to a much-needed victory as they kept their hopes alive for the series decider in Ahmedabad.

However, India were bundled out for 109 runs after the first innings, the visitors scored 197 to gain a crucial lead over the hosts to pressurize them further. It was thanks to the efforts of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Umesh Yadav that Australia weren’t able to notch some more runs on the scoreboard.

Yadav’s fiery spell in the first innings saw him take the wickets of Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc, and Todd Murphy. Despite Australia going on to win the game quite comfortably, India will hope that their bowling line-up can be consistent as the series decider in Ahmedabad is scheduled to begin on March 9.

Everything is on the line for India, as a win would secure a spot in the World Test Championship final. It could be interesting to see what line-up skipper Rohit Sharma could field in the fourth Test, it is likely that spinners could play a big role once again as well.
