Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar was caught up in a hilarious moment that involved skipper MS Dhoni during the clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Notably, CSK registered their third win of the IPL 2023 season against their fierce rivals, RCB, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, April 17.
In the first innings, the visiting team were put into bat first and displayed a scintillating show, courtesy of vital knocks from Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shivam Dube. While Conway scored 83 off 45 balls, Rahane and Dube got 37 and 52 runs, respectively to steer the side to attain a humongous 226-run total.
However, in the midst of the first innings, Deepak Chahar, who has been confined to the sidelines owing to a hamstring injury, was caught up in a hilarious incident. The pacer, who was seated in the dugout, was startled when skipper MS Dhoni began shadow batting during the high-octane clash.
In the video, Deepak can be seen visibly puzzled after Dhoni padded up and began shadow batting in front of him in the dugout. Soon after the skipper brought his bat close to Deepak’s face, the latter immediately left his seat in order to not get hit.
CSK dealing with multiple injury concerns
Notably, Deepak had to leave the field after the first over against Mumbai Indians during Match 12 of the ongoing season owing to an injury in his hamstring. The injury occurred in the fifth ball of his first over following which the CSK physios helped him walk off the field.
The yellow outfit have endured a string of injuries as all-rounder Kyle Jamieson and pacer Mukesh Choudhary got ruled out for the entirety of the season. Chahar, Sisanda Magala, Simarjeet Singh, and Ben Stokes have also picked up injuries with a few of them out for the rest of the season. However, Stokes is likely to be back in the forthcoming matches as confirmed by CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan while interacting with Cricbuzz.
"Ben (Stokes) is doing well, he is recovering fast, and should definitely be fit for the April 30 game. He could even be ready earlier, maybe by the April 27 game," Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz.
