The 2023 edition of the IPL final was a gift that kept on giving - rain interruptions, emotions, drama, intensity and whatnot.
Ravindra Jadeja smashed Mohit Sharma for a six and a four in the last two balls of the IPL final to take CSK home and help them clinch their fifth title. It was emotions galore as MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja shared a very priceless moment together as Dhoni hugged India's premier all-rounder after Jadeja's victory run towards the Chennai dugout.
After the final went to a reserve day after persistent rain on Sunday, May 28, Skipper MS Dhoni called it right at the toss and opted to bowl first. Gujarat were off to a sensational start picking up singles that were easily on offer and made scoring runs easy.
Saha showed class and put on a boundary-hitting masterclass as he notched up five fours and one six. Gill on the other hand, survived but eventually got out to Jadeja, courtesy of MS Dhoni's quick glovework. Sai Sudarshan was the star of the night, scoring 96 from just 47 deliveries. He lit up the Narendra Modi Stadium and stamped his authority over CSK bowlers.
Gujarat eventually set Chennai a target of 215 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad faced only a handful of deliveries before the rain came pouring down. With the DLS target set, Chennai needed 171 in 15 overs to clinch their fifth IPL title.
Contributions from Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu sealed the deal for the Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
