The final of the ongoing IPL 2023 featured a clash between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, May 29.
The summit clash of the tournament was pushed into the reserve day after relentless rain played spoilsport on Sunday, May 28. However, as the fans returned on Monday to witness the clash between Chennai and Gujarat, they were treated to a mesmerising performance by Indian rapper King as he performed in the closing ceremony.
However, as the rapper sang one of his most popular tracks, ‘Maan meri jaan,’ the spectators were treated to a brilliant cameo from Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni. As the singer sang the song, the screen showed the Chennai skipper walking on the field to warm up for the game, which made the crowd go berserk.
One of the biggest reasons for the crowd reaction could be that the IPL 2023 final is believed to be the last game of Dhoni’s career. Despite no official confirmation, fans have been speculating for weeks whether the 41-year-old would call it quits after the end of the ongoing edition of the tournament.
MS Dhoni competing in his 11th IPL final
The final of the IPL 2023 is a historic occasion for MS Dhoni. The legendary skipper competed in his 11th IPL final when the four-time champions took on Gujarat Titans. Furthermore, this is Chennai Super Kings’ 10th IPL final across the 14 seasons that they've played. The side has won the title on four occasions, and it could be interesting to see whether the 41-year-old would lead them to their fifth title.
Both Chennai and Gujarat previously faced each other in Qualifier 1 of the tournament, where the former emerged victorious by 15 runs. However, as Gujarat played Qualifier 2, they handed Mumbai Indians a big defeat in the game and made it to their second IPL final in two years.
