IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans' star opener Shubman Gill poses with IPL Orange Cap, shares picture on social media
Shubman Gill is currently the leading run scorer in the ongoing IPL 2023.
Gujarat Titans' dynamic opener Shubman Gill is enjoying a purple patch at the moment as he is currently holding the Orange Cap being the leading run-getter in the IPL 2023 by virtue of scoring 851 runs in 16 games.
Gill recently posted a funky picture of himself with the Orange Cap on Twitter and the same has garnered plenty of engagement. Taking to the microblogging site Twitter, Gill posted a picture in which he can be seen relaxing and his face covered with the Orange Cap. He captioned the image with an orange heart and sleep emoticons.
Shubman Gill inches closer to several IPL records
Shubman Gill is probably enjoying the best time of his life with the bat. Playing for Gujarat Titans in the 2023 edition of the cash-rich league, he has garnered a massive tally of 851 runs in 16 innings at an astonishing average of 60.78. He has single-handedly propelled his side to victory on multiple occassions.
Given the kind of stupendous display with the bat that the 23-year-old has shown, he is just 123 runs away from surpassing Virat Kohli's record for most runs scored in a single edition (973) of the the IPL. Virat achieved the feat while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 edition. Although, Gill will have to play another scintillating knock to claim the record, it is likely to happen given the kind of form he is in.
Meanwhile, star Rajasthan Royals batter Jos Buttler scored 863 runs in the 2022 edition, which is still the second-most runs aggregated by an individual in the marquee tournament in a season, is highly likely to be broken by the Gujarat opener, as he is just 12 runs away from demolishing the same.
Notably, with 33 maximums in this edition for so far, Gill is the joint-second on the list of most number of sixes hit in the ongoing season and needs to strike four big hits to overtake Faf du Plessis, who ended his season with 36 sixes in 14 games.
