CSK clinch third win of the IPL 2023
After losing their previous game to the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings had a statement to make when they faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 24th match of the tournament.
Batting first, the MS Dhoni-led side did just that as Devon Conway scored 83 runs in 45 deliveries, and Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube’s cameos of 37 and 52 runs respectively helped the four-time champions post a whopping 226 runs on the board after 20 overs.
Coming in to chase the mammoth target, the hosts got off to the worst of starts as Virat Kohli, who had been in sensational form recently, was dismissed for just six runs. However, skipper Faf du Plessis played a resilient innings, amassing 62 runs in just 33 deliveries to give his side some hope.
Furthermore, Glenn Maxwell’s fabulous knock of 76 runs brought the side ever closer to chasing the huge target, and with Dinesh Karthik's late push of scoring 28 runs, the Faf du Plessis-led side looked like the favourites. Although Chennai’s bowling attack hindered the hosts' plans, Tushar Deshpande took three wickets, with Matheesha Pathirana taking two to defeat Bangalore at home. The four-time champions won the match by eight runs.
