IPL 2023: MS Dhoni's daughter Ziva and wife Sakshi mark their presence during CSK vs MI clash at MA Chidambaram Stadium
This is the first game of CSK this season that MSD's family has attended.
In the 49th match of the IPL 2023 between arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, home skipper MS Dhoni's wife Sakshi Dhoni and daughter Ziva Dhoni graced the venue. It was the first time the two marked their presence for CSK's game this season.
CSK pacer Deepak Chahar's wife Jaya Chahar was also seated in the stands alongside Sakshi and Ziva. While Jaya had been accompanying Deepak Chahar throughout the season this year, the clash against Mumbai was the first for Sakshi and Ziva this season.
Speaking of the game, Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium by six wickets. Notably, it was the first time in 13 years that CSK defeated MI at home. The five-time champions were put to bat first after MS Dhoni won the toss. MI had a horrendous start to their innings as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay.
Top order batters Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green, and Rohit Sharma, all were dismissed cheaply, thanks to top bowling efforts from Tushar Deshpande and Deepak Chahar. Even after Nehal Wadhera’s fighting half-century and Suryakumar Yadav’s efforts in the middle, MI were able to score only 139 runs in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Matheesha Pathirana’s three-wicket haul which derailed the visitors’ momentum.
While chasing the 140-run target, CSK batters showed great composure and managed to pull off the task with ease. After a good start from Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube added a few runs to the scoreboard. MS Dhoni promoted himself up the order and scored the winning runs as CSK clinched an easy victory.
CSK put a half on MI’s winning run in the ongoing tournament, and jumped to second place in the IPL 2023 points table, bagging their sixth victory. Because their game against Lucknow was washed out, the two sides shared one point each as CSK now have 13 points to their name.
