The 22nd game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will see the five-time champions Mumbai Indians take on the Nitish Rana-led Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 16.

As the side returns to the Wankhede Stadium, it will be a special day for the Rohit Sharma-led side as the franchise gears up to celebrate ‘ESA Day", which is a part of Reliance Foundation and Mumbai Indians’ initiative Education and Sports for All (ESA). There will be over 19,000 girls from 36 NGOs and 200 special children who will be present at the stadium to show their support for the Mumbai Indians.

With the day to be celebrated on the same day as Mumbai’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, the franchise will celebrate the day in a special way as they will wear Mumbai Indians' Women’s Premier League (WPL) jersey.

The side took to Twitter to announce the same, with Indian batter Tilak Varma featuring in the video. "Special Jersey for #ESAday. Our boys will be donning the #WPLMI jersey tomorrow to inspire the girl child, and we are all right now," the caption read.

This special match is a celebration of women in sports: Nita Ambani

Speaking about the initiative, co-owner of Mumbai Indians Nita Ambani came forward to reflect on the special day. She talked to the team ahead of the match and reflected on how proud the entire franchise was of hosting thousands of underprivileged girls at the Wankhede Stadium.

"This special match is a celebration of women in sports. This year saw a landmark beginning for India’s women cricketers with the first-ever Women’s Premier League. To spotlight girls’ right to education and sport, we are dedicating this year’s ESA event to the girl child! Reliance Foundation is proud to bring over 19,000 young girls from different NGOs to enjoy the IPL match live in the stadium this Sunday," Nita Ambani said in a video posted by Mumbai Indians.
