IPL 2023: Rahul Tewatia takes a stunner to dismiss Rilee Rossouw on golden duck in DC vs GT encounter
Tewatia grabbed a brilliant catch off Alzarri Joseph's bowling.
Delhi Capitals struggled at 70/4 in nine overs when Gujarat Titans' pacers proved dominant in the seventh match of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) on Tuesday, April 4. Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph picked two wickets each as Delhi's pitch is producing good swing and bounce for the pacers with a new ball.
Shami picked two early wickets of Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh and then the West Indies pacer excelled with two big wickets of David Warner, who was looking dangerous at 37 off 32, and Rilee Rossouw to add some early pressure on the Capitals. However, it was Rahul Tewatia's brilliant effort in the field which deserved the credit for Rossouw's dismissal.
Alzarri bowled a shoulder-high bouncer which caught Rossouw surprised. The delivery bounced off to a point area where Tewatia pulled off a blinder while diving forward. The third umpire reviewed the catch as there was a doubt about the ball touching the ground first, but in a replay, Tewatia was quicker to get his fingers wrapped to avoid contact with the ground.
Rossouw walked out on a golden duck as Delhi Capitals lost their fourth wicket in just nine overs. Shami and Joshua Little were impressive with their opening spells with the former dismissing Shaw on just seven runs with Alzarri taking an easy catch at mid-on.
Hardik Pandya handed Shami his third over and the Indian veteran bagged Marsh's big wicket on a stunning delivery. After some early struggles, Warner paced his innings and produced a 30-run stand for the third wicket with Sarfaraz Khan. He smashed two back-to-back boundaries off Alazarri in the latter's first over.
But the Caribbean had the last laugh as he bowled out Warner in his second over on a fierce delivery. A 145.5 kmph delivery took a thick inside edge and shattered the stumps to end Warner's impressive knock.
After losing the opening game against Lucknow Super Giants, the Capitals welcomed back star South African pacer Anrich Nortje, who came in the place of Rovman Powell. Wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel replaced Khaleel Ahmed, with the latter expected to come in as an impact player while fielding.
