IPL 2023: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals, Match 4: Best memes from the game
The Royals defeated Sunrisers by 72 runs.
Rajasthan Royals kicked off their Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) campaign with a dominating 72-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the fourth match on April 2. Royals' top-order recorded three half-centuries to post a big 200-plus total while batting first. Then Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal shone with a ball to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to just 131/8.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the toss for the Sunrisers and asked the Royals to bat first at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Jason Holder and KM Asif made their debuts for the Royals while the Sunrisers handed maiden caps to four players, including big-money signings Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal.
Last season's IPL Orange Cap winner Jos Buttler started explosively to announce his arrival and smashed a quick fifty. He and youngster Yashavi Jaiswal pulled off an 85-run stand for the first wicket in just 5.5 overs to put the Royals on track for a big total. Buttler smashed 54 off just 22 before getting bowled out on an excellent delivery by Afghan pacer Fazahaq Farooqi in the sixth over. But Sanu Samson continued the fireworks with a fourth straight fifty against the Sunrisers.
Samson scored 55 off 32 and Jaiswal added 54 off 37 but the Sunrisers bowlers made a late comeback in the death overs. T Natarajan and Farooqi took two wickets each while the young speedster Umran Malik picked one wicket to contain the Royals to 203/5.
New Zealand pacer Trent Boult put the Royals in a driving seat with two big wickets in the very first over. He bowled out Abhishek Sharma on the innings' third delivery with an unplayable delivery and then dismissed the experienced Rahul Tripathi on the fifth ball, with Holder taking a great catch at first slip.
Mayank tried to add some balance but the Sunrisers kept losing wickets from one end. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled out Brook in the seventh over for 13 off 21 on his highly-anticipated debut. Glenn Phillips and Washington Sundar also failed to add stability in the middle as the Sunrisers bowlers dominated in every department.
Abdul Samad, who substituted Yashasvi as an impact player, scored 32* off 32 and Umran smashed 19* off eight as the Sunrisers scored 131/8 in 20 overs. Chahal bagged four wickets for 17 and Boult picked two for 21 for Rajasthan Royals to clinch a deserving win.
