Mumbai Indians decimated Gujarat Titans to solidify their place in the top four of the ongoing IPL 2023 on May 13 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, the five-time champions showed a lot of intent as skipper Rohit Sharma (29 off 18) and Ishan Kishan (31 off 20) gave a perfect start in the powerplay. Meanwhile, even though Rashid Khan send the duo packing right after the powerplay, they set the tone which players like Suryakumar Yadav and Vishnu Vinod later capitalised on.

The flamboyant Suryakumar ended with an unbeaten 103 off 49 as Mumbai posted 218/5 in the first innings. At a time when the team was under pressure after losing three wickets, Vishnu stepped in and chipped in well with 30 off 20. From Gujarat, Rashid Khan tried his best to bring his team into the game but Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph leaked runs as Gujarat went on the backfoot.

They could not do much with the bat either as Akash Madhwal picked two crucial wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Subhuman Gill in the powerplay, while Jason Behrendrorff sent Hardik Pandya back in the third over. Later on, David Miler (41 off 26) tried to bring GT back to the game but Madhwal once again stepped up to dismiss the South Africa international. Rashid in the end played a top-notch innings, scoring unbeaten 79 off 32 but it was too little too late as MI defeated GT by 27 Runs.

With that, the Rohit Sharma-led side remains at number three in the IPL points table while GT are still at the top.
