RCB's youngsters show promise, only for it to go in vain
Faf du Plessis called it right at the toss and opted to bat first on a good surface in Virat's homecoming. The Bangalore openers started off on a promising note as they notched up 51 runs in the powerplay. All the limelight was on Virat Kohli as he became the first cricketer in the history of the Indian Premier League to make 7000 runs.
On the other hand, du Plessis also was among the records as he became the first player to touch the 500-run mark in the 2023 edition of the league. Mitch Marsh struck twice for Delhi as he dismissed both du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell on consecutive deliveries.
Mahipal Lomror then took charge and silenced all the critics of RCB's batting depth and scored his first-ever IPL fifty and took RCB past the 180-mark with the help of cameos from Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat.
Chasing 182 to bag two crucial points, Delhi were off to the perfect start as they hit 70 in the powerplay, courtesy of David Warner and Philip Salt. The hosts were completely dominant in the second half and just did not offer any opportunities to the visitors to get back into the game. Mitch Marsh, Rilee Rossouw and Axar Patel all chipped in with 25, 36 and 8, respectively, to hand Delhi Capitals their win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Virat Kohli's homecoming.
