The 17th edition of the IPL (Indian Premier League) is all set to kick off on March 22. The season opener of the tournament will see Chennai Super Kings take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With the new season of the tournament rapidly approaching, the fans are very excited to see their favourite franchises in action once more.
Ahead of the season opener, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) came forward to announce that it will be extending its operations of metro trains beyond the scheduled time due to the IPL 2024 cricket match on Friday, March 22. The metro trains will be operated from 11:00 p.m. on March 22 until 1 a.m. on March 23, to facilitate travel and avoid congestion. Chennai Metro will also be making arrangements for the issue of one-way tickets priced at INR 50. These tickets can be used to exit at any station within the metro network. The Chennai metro rail took to the social media domain to announce their change in timings.
"There is usually network congestion at the stadium and surrounding areas due to large crowd due to which it would be difficult to buy online tickets while being in the stadium. Also, after the match, the rush at Government Estate / Central metro stations would be very high and may result in long wait in the queues for purchase of ticket,” CMRL tweeted.
"Commuters are advised to buy their metro tickets in advance for return/round trip (to & fro) either online (CMRL mobile App, Paytm app, Phonepe app, WhatsApp, ONDC etc.) or at the ticket counters at any of the stations before going to the stadium,” the tweet further mentioned.
