Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showed their gratitude towards their devoted fanbase as they took a lap of honour around the MA Chidambaram Stadium after their last home game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, May 12.
The fans who had attended the game were requested to stay back after the match. Once the Men in Yellow registered a thumping five-wicket win, with 10 balls to spare, they embarked on a lap of honour and launched some tennis balls into the crowd as souvenirs. The focus was on the legendary MS Dhoni, who has been a constant through all the highs and lows of the popular franchise. Mr. IPL and former CSK player Suresh Raina also marked his presence in a yellow blazer to show some 'Yellove' for the amazing fans.

There was a possibility of this match being the swansong of Dhoni at the iconic venue. However, with the win, there is a huge possibility of the defending champions returning to the MA Chidambaram Stadium for the playoffs. The stadium is set to host Qualifier 2 on May 24 and the final on May 26. After Chennai's win against Rajasthan, the five-time champions moved to No. 3 on the points table, with seven wins and six losses from 13 games. They will be playing their final match of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 18 on the penultimate day of the league stage.

How did CSK fare at home in IPL 2024?
The MA Chidambaram Stadium has been considered a fortress for CSK because it has been quite difficult to beat them at their home ground over the years. The defending champions managed to win five matches and lost just two at home this season.

Under Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy, the Super Kings won their first two home games against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans convincingly to start their title defence. They picked up their third consecutive win at the venue against Kolkata Knight Riders after playing two away games. Lucknow Super Giants became the first team to beat Ruturaj and Co. at Chepauk this season on the back of a scintillating ton from Marcus Stoinis.
However, Chennai bounced back with a thumping win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, only to lose to Punjab Kings in their next. The win in the final home game against the Royals has put them well in contention for the playoffs and the CSK fans will be hoping to see their team once again on their home ground in the summit clash on May 26.
