Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans have a reason to cheer as their beloved captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, showcased his vintage form during a recent training session ahead of the IPL 2024 opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Speculations surrounding Dhoni's potential retirement after this IPL season have only added to the anticipation, making each of his appearances on the field even more significant for fans. The video of Dhoni's net session, where he effortlessly dispatched balls with his characteristic finesse, has already become viral on social media platforms, further fueling excitement among cricket enthusiasts.
Last season, Dhoni had to manage his workload due to a knee injury, often batting in the lower-middle order. Despite the setback, he led CSK to their joint-most fifth title, earning immense respect and admiration from fans and teammates alike. Following his surgery and subsequent rehabilitation, Dhoni appears determined to make a strong comeback, aiming to lead his team to yet another successful campaign.

Commenting on Dhoni's fitness, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan expressed optimism, stating, “He has recovered well (from his knee injury). He is undergoing his rehab programmes, started training. By the time the next IPL starts, I am sure he will be fit to play.” This reassurance comes as a relief for fans eagerly awaiting Dhoni's return to action.
However, CSK faced an early setback with New Zealand opener Devon Conway expected to miss the first half of the tournament due to thumb surgery following an injury sustained during an international match. Despite this setback, the team remain focused on their title defense as they gear up to take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024 opener at Chepauk Stadium on March 22.
