The rain-abandoned Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT) last Thursday may have been a washout, but it produced an entertaining moment. As the umpires informed captains Shubman Gill and Pat Cummins that no play would be possible, the duo engaged in a light-hearted game of rock-paper-scissors to humorously decide a winner.

With the match being called off without a ball bowled, the one point earned saw SRH move into third place on the IPL table. This result strengthened their chances of securing one of the top two spots. The washout disappointed GT, as the 2022 champions failed to qualify this year after a prior match rained out.

In a video that quickly went viral, Gill and Cummins can be seen being told by the match officials that the contest had been abandoned due to the relentless rain in Hyderabad. With no on-field result to determine a winner, the two-star players engaged in a friendly game of rock-paper-scissors.

After a couple of rounds, Gill emerged victorious over Cummins, with the young Indian opener's paper covering the Australian captain's rock. As SRH sits in third position heading into the playoffs, a win against Punjab Kings in their next game would further cement their top-two status.

SRH to face PBKS in their last league stage encounter

The Orange Army hopes that the Rajasthan Royals (RR), currently placed second in the league table, will lose their upcoming match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). If the Royals suffer a defeat, it would increase SRH's chances of securing the second position in the points table, which would then pit them against KKR in Qualifier 1 of the tournament, scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad.

The SRH batters have been in exceptional form, and their performances have impressed everybody. Among the highest totals in the tournament's history, three out of the top five totals belong to SRH, and remarkably, all three of these high scores have been achieved in the current season.
