IPL 2024: Rinku Singh asks for another bat from Virat Kohli after breaking the first one

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh engaged in a hilarious but uncomfortable conversation with Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli ahead of the two teams clash at the Eden Gardens. Set to be played in Kolkata on Sunday 21 April, this will be the reverse fixture of the rivalry.

It would be the second time this season that KKR and RCB would square off. In their first meeting, despite Kohli's brilliant 83 off 59 balls, the Knight Riders emerged victorious. After that match, the RCB batter gifted Rinku one of his bats as a token of appreciation for the youngster's rapid growth. However, Rinku has now revealed, he, unfortunately, broke that gifted willow.

Ahead of the clash, Rinku was caught by KKR's cameramen, explaining the situation to Kohli. As Rinku checked out two of Kohli's bats, the RCB star asked if he was requesting a replacement already. Before Rinku could respond, Kohli light-heartedly mentioned if he gifted him two bats in two matches, he'd be in trouble later in the tournament.

You broke it against a spinner?: Virat Kohli

KKR posted a video on their official Twitter handle of the two cricketers discussing the broken bat. “Virat bhai ne ek bat diya thha… jo bat diya thha, woh mere se toot gaya," the caption read. Here's how the conversation went:

Rinku Singh: I broke the bat (you gave) against a spinner.

Virat Kohli: My bat?

Rinku Singh: Yes

Virat Kohli: You broke it against a spinner? Where did you break it from?

Rinku Singh: From the middle.

Virat Kohli: What should I do then?

Rinku Singh: I was just informing you.

Virat Kohli: No problem. Good that you told me. But I don't need information.

(Rinku then starts knocking the ball on two of Virat's bats.)

Virat Kohli: This bat is no good.

Rinku Singh: Are you sending one?

Virat Kohli: To whom am I sending?

Rinku Singh: You can keep it (returns Virat's bats to him)

Rinku Singh: You took a bat from me previously. Now you want a second bat in the second game? Because of you, I face consequences later.

Virat Kohli: I swear on you, won't break the bat again. I can show you the broken bat.

The bat Kohli initially presented to Rinku was a special gift after KKR's seven-wicket win over RCB in the first meeting in Bengaluru. While Rinku had hilariously asked the star cricketer for yet another bat, to which Virat refused in the video.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side is currently third on the points table with eight points and has won four out of their six games. On the other hand, the Faf du Plessis-led side is languishing at the bottom of the table with two points and has won only one game so far.
